It’s that time of the year again to Make Your Own Havaianas! I’ve been attending this annual event for a few years now and you can read about my previous experiences HERE.
This year, Havaianas is paying homage to its origin with a Shibori-inspired Make Your Own Havaianas.
When people think of Havaianas, the first country that comes to mind is Brazil, where the world’s favorite flip-flop brand was born. Digging a little deeper in its history, Havaianas actually originated 54 years ago with great Eastern Zen influence. Its creator was inspired by the Japanese Zori, the traditional sandals that are made of fabric straps and rice straw soles. Makes of its Asian heritage are still evident on the rice pattern that’s embedded on every sole until today.
Now on its 11th year, the biggest and most anticipated customisation event in the country will be all about the ancient art of Shibori, a Japanese fabric-dying technique that makes use of indigo shades to create beautiful patterns on cloths for kimonos and obi sashes.
From today, April 22 to April 24, 2016, Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH) takes every Havaianatico to the Land of the Rising Sun at the SM Mega Fashion Hall. Customise your very own kawaii (cute)-inspired flip-flops–from color of the soles and straps to one-of-kind iconic Japanese pins. Just like the previous years, celebrity assembles are joining this year’s event to assist lucky customers in personalizing their flip-flops. Bailey May, Ilona Garcia, Julia Barretto, Kiefer Ravena, Laura Lehmann, Von Pessimal, Mika Reyes, and Jeron Teng are sure to add fun and excitement to the already festive event.
That wheel of fortune este flip-flop. Teehee. This wheel has helped hundreds decide what their pair will look like. Every year, I twist and turn this wheel to see which combination would be my favorite. 🙂
Too many cute pins, just like every year!
Don’t know your size? Step on any of these Havaianas to know.
The commemorative sole was such a crowd favorite. It’s very-Japanese look got almost everyone wanting this sole.
Here’s my pair about to be assembled.
No Japanese-themed event would be complete without some sake!
Morning cocktails? Yes, please! The Titas Eliza, Tin, Cai, Kris & I with Ammiel de Leon.
This year was by far the quickest MYOH for me. I was done in about 20 minutes.
