In a perfect world, studying for an hour or two after almost a full day in school is something fun & exciting for every kid. But we ain’t living in that world are we? 😂 We’ve been back to school for more than a month now (give or take a few days of no school and holidays) and while it feels like we’ve already adjusted to school life, I think otherwise.
HUNG OVER SUMMER
I gotta admit, going back to school this year has been more challenging than the previous years. My kids needed a
little lot of encouraging to build up excitement of looking forward to school. Truth be told I needed a little encouraging myself. 🙈

I’m pretty sure I had moments like this when I was a kid. On some days my parents would have to force me to sit down and study. Eventually, I managed to have the discipline I needed to accomplish school work. I am hoping the same will happen to my kids.
Now that I’m a mom I feel the pressure of raising my grade schoolers. Both my kids loved going to school when they were toddlers. They still feel the same now that they attend big school but I can sense there’s a challenge each year level brings–longer hours in school, more subjects mean more school work–and I know it’s something they need to get used to.
How do I cultivate not just good study habits but also delightful attitude towards school?
Just like how I try to make play time a learning experience for my kids, I also try to make studying fun. I admit though sometimes I struggle along with them (with the things I need to do–prepare dinner, wash the dishes, finish work and all) because I tend to get impatient. But then I am reminded that they are kids and they need all the nurturing they can get from the people who can give it the most–their parents.
Anchoring on the idea that I am my children’s mom, I have the capability to nurture their gifts, their abilities, their ideas and even their behavior. And if I lead them in the right direction, guide them to form good habits eventually, they’ll develop academic resilience.
While I know it’ll take great effort and consistency on my part as a parent to nurture my kids to be the best they can be, I know I don’t have to worry about nourishing them. Don’t get me wrong, when it comes to the food my kids eat, I’m not an all-natural, all-organic kind of mom. I’m not that strict! I honestly think it’s alright to enjoy sweets once in a while. They get to eat their favorite treats but I make sure all is taken in moderation–just like anything in life. Good thing they do have their favourite veggies and fruits plus they love their milk.
My kids still drink milk at least twice a day. They wake up early in the morning on school days yet have little to no appetite to eat heavy breakfast (this was a struggle I’ve learned to let go–I really can’t force them to eat heavy breakfast on school days talaga).
