Happy New Year everyone! While most are still asleep bilang puyat sa NYE countdown, here I am writing my first thought for the year. I want to REnew something this 2015. Nope, this isn’t one of those New Year’s resolution that half of the time I fail to fulfill. This year, I wanna REnew my commitment to live consciously and be part of a society that takes pride in nurturing nature through renewable energy.
Whenever there’s a storm warning, I really get paranoid and would always double, if not triple check on the things that would help us should there be a power interruption. Emergency light, check. Rechargeable fan, check. Charged power banks, check. This momma is locked and loaded should a bad weather persists for these items to be used. While these resources can be found in most homes, did you know that 3 out of 10 Filipino household still remain without power even on a regular sunny day? Now if only there are more ways for us to live a sustainable life, I believe with REnewable energy we can.
Renewable energy (Biomass, geothermal, wind, solar, and hydro energy) is an unlimited, clean, free and sustainable source of energy that has become more viable and continuos to be environmentally friendly. Though it may not completely replace other sources of energy, still it can help lower the importation of energy of our country. If we go for renewable energy, there’s a great chance of decrease in electricity cost and greater chance of sustainable living.
With this, a few celebrities have used their influence to REnew in 2015.
TV host Biana Gonzalez
The Philippine Volcanoes team
PBA Player and Habitat for Humanity ambassador Chris Tiu
Actress Kylie Padilla
TV host and World Wildlife Fund for Nature Ambassador Marc Nelson
Actor Mikael Daez
Actor and TV Host Paolo Ballesteros
I myself also made my own pinwheels as a sign that I am all for #REnew2015
This year, I will focus on myself. I will strive to learn more about myself. To improve myself to become a better person so that I may serve other people better. This year, I will strive to live consciously, to live in the now and not worry so much about the future. I will REnew my outlook and my goals to be aligned with my self-improvement.
This 2015, let’s all strive to be part of a brighter future not just for us but for the future generations. Given the natural resources and current situation of our country, isn’t it time to go for REnewable energy?
What do you want to renew in 2015? Take a pledge and create your own pinwheel. Post a photo on your social media sites, use the hashtags and include a sentence or two on what you plan to renew this year.
