In the past few years, the word “organic” has been thrown around along with health & wellness. But what is organic really?
Organic is anything produced without the use of fertilizers, pesticides or other artificial agents.
When I started to shift into a healthier lifestyle a few years ago, nutrition was the thing that challenged me the most. While there are a lot of options when it comes to healthy food, not all of them are free of pesticides nor chemicals. Shocking right? I learned this over time when I slowly introduced more organic food to my family. Going organic seems like a hard commitment to do but it’s not. Here are my top three tips on how to start incorporating organic products in your life.
READ & RESEARCH
Start by doing your research. Read, read, read on articles about organic products. Knowing what makes a product organic, where it comes from and how it’s made is a good way to start. While there are so many brands & sources of organic products, not all are created equal. I for one have a few dietary restrictions and preferences when it comes to what I eat and what I use– some organic products have ingredients that I’m allergic to so I double if not triple check on the label. As for produce, there’s a list called “clean fifteen” these are the best non-organic fruits & vegetables you can buy.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
The easiest way is always the simplest way. You can start off with your stash of organic produce. One of the tips I learned when I started incorporating organic in our lives is to buy seasonal products. This is applicable to fruits and vegetables. Ever noticed how mangoes tend to be more expensive during the BER months? That’s because they’re in season during summer. So plan your weekly meals based on the products you’ll buy so you won’t spend so much money and be able to take advantage of the fresh harvest of farmers.
GO FOR SLOW, SMART SHIFT
Shifting to an organic lifestyle need not to be drastic. You have to start smart– slow and simple. After shifting to organic produce, we started looking for other organic products– other food items and personal care. We also have been consciously recycling and reducing waste as much as we can. These small changes is the smart way to go organic.
One of the best decisions we’ve made is to shift my son’s growing up milk to Promil Organic. I recently discovered Promil Organic because I was searching for more ways to go organic and since my son still loves his milk, I figured this is the #SmartWaytoGoOrganic. I also saw a video on Youtube explaining the benefits of Promil Organic for kids where it is very rich in essential nutrients to support your child’s multi-dimensional development to help nourish his learning abilities. He was very curious to know where his organic milk comes from. So, I read him the story of Millie The Cow and how Promil Organic is made of 100% organic milk from a certified organic farm, with essential & important nutrients, free from antibiotics and chemical pesticides.
There is no specific right way to go organic but there’s always a smart way and that’s starting with products that’ll nourish your family – ensuring them that they get the nutrition they need to keep them healthy & well.
