We all love the iconic and recognisable crocodile logo in the classic cotton petit pique polo shirt. But did you know the history behind our favorite Lacoste polo shirt? René Lacoste, tennis legend was nicknamed the crocodile for his tenacity on the court. He created a uniform that would allow for better sweat absorption and freedom of movement. He named it L.12.12- L for Lacoste, 1 for its one-of-a-kind fabric, 2 for its short sleeves, and 12 for the number of the final version of the design he selected for production. The L.12.12 was designed in 1927 and since then, has remained a beloved wardrobe staple for the elegantly athletic. 87 years after, Lacoste’s sporting spirit is reignited in the Lacoste.12.12 watch collection. I was feeding my faux athlete’s ego as I attended the Lacoste.12.12 launch. The invite says sporty chic so I came prepared 😉
It was all about greens, tennis and of course the Lacoste.12.12 watch.
You know an event is tastefully made when the star of the day was served in a silver platter. In this case, five stars of the show were presented.
Of course I wore a Lacoste.12.12 cotton petit pique poloshirt.
I channeled the inner Maria Sharapova in me during the event. Although technically, I didn’t do anything but pose ala Sharapova. But I did try playing tennis back when I was a kid. I remember it being a challenging sport as it would take some getting used to holding the racket properly while chasing after the ball.
Before the program started we were treated to a feast! Look at how much I ate that day.
Just like the classic Lacoste polo shirt, the Lacoste.12.12 watch embodies the brand’s rich history of designing crisp, elegant pieces. Perfect for Filipinos who seem to have a tasteful yet practical sense of aesthetics- values that are manifest in these timepieces.
It’s Wii time!
After the historical introduction about Lacoste.12.12 , we were in for a surprise as we were part of the mini tennis tournament. Thanks Nikki of Ask Me Whats for the photo. My partner & I were strategically planning how we can advance to the semis. After much focus, determination and luck, we were one of the two teams who competed in the finals! Although we didn’t win as the grand champion, it was such a fun experience that I didn’t mind placing second.
Joei and I all smiles after finishing our tourney. Naaaaks, parang pro lang eh no? Hihihihi.
Simplicity, refinement and comfort are the hallmarks of Lacoste’s wearable icons. The light, airy pique fabric that serves as the polo shirt’s unique signature is faithfully echoes on the watch by an attractive petit pique mesh effect running around the case sides and along the soft-touch silicone strap. Ready to take a bite out of 3 o’clock is the legendary green crocodile that adorns each dial.
