Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.- Eleanor Roosevelt
It all starts with you. Why is it so easy to feel affected on what people think or say about you? Why has it become our instinct to react on how others see us? Truth is it’s none of our business. Whatever other people think or say about us is all theirs but how it gets to us and how we react about it is all on us.
In a world where being different results to being mocked, isolated, and bullied, now is the time to celebrate uniqueness. When you’re young it’s easier to choose blending in instead of standing out. And I think one way or another we’ve all experienced being mocked & bullied–physical, mental, sometimes emotional too.
Local retail brand Penshoppe had it’s first public CSR project, #IAmDifferent
It aims to form a movement to inspire everyone to embrace who they are despite what other people may think. Penshoppe brings its focus to the widespread issue of bullying plaguing the Filipino youth. The campaign presents a timely opportunity for everyone to start talking about the pressing issue of bullying in the country. A study reports that 1 out of 2 Filipino students have experienced or witnessed bullying in their schools. It has also taken a new form especially with the advent of social media as it provides a more convenient avenue to spread hate and thrive on people’s insecurities.
I’ve had my fair share of being mocked and being isolated. I grew up feeling insecure about the way I look. I have big almond eyes, thin as stick, and tan colored skin. And my being painfully shy has often been misunderstood as being snobbish and snotty. But eventually I realized it all starts with accepting who I am & not being apologetic about it.
The core of this campaign is Penshoppe’s newest collection of tees and caps which are emblazoned with the campaign statements “I Am Different” and “Different is good”. Each t-shirt from the limited edition #IAmDifferent collection features construction from luxe fabric and with a special identifier: a unique serial number
Proceeds from the #IAmDifferent collection will benefit development of a model that discourages bullying and encourages acceptance in public school children, in partnership with Teach For The Philippines. To know more visit www.penshoppe.com/pages/iamdifferent
As a mom I always try to remind my children to have courage and be kind. I know it’s very Cinderella but this is one thing I want my kids to have. Kindness to see the good in other people and courage to embrace their difference.
Been loving wearing t-shirts lately. I used to think I shirts don’t suit me because I look like I didn’t exert enough effort to dress up whenever I wear it. But that’s exactly that–shirt is usually effortless, so why not pair it with something trendy to make it more chic? Currently obsessed with pretty skirts and paring it with no-fuss tops.
Also currently into comfy pairs of shoes. This slip on is da bomb! If you follow fellow moo blogger Cat Arambulo on Instagram you’ve probably seen her sporting a similar pair. She’s right, it’s super comfy!
