Back when I was in college, I frequent Glorietta Mall. It’s near my MRT stop (Ayala), it’s where I ride a cab to my castings and it’s where I shop & hang out with friends. I was pretty familiar with the mall back then but I haven’t been to the service apartment that is Ascott Makati, which sits right at Glorietta 4.
So my first time staying at Ascott Makati was two weeks ago with my family. Being familiar with the territory yet unfamiliar with the place made me look forward to it. The verdict? Lets just say my lil’ GJGs didn’t want to go back home.
We checked in at Ascott makati at around 2 in the afternoon on a gloomy, rainy Saturday.
Ascott iced tea refreshingly welcomed us.
Ascott Makati offers different monthly activities exclusive to their residents. Many of us know that Ascott Makati is a service hotel but what we don’t know is that they also cater to clients who want to stay even just for the weekend, making it their home away from home.
The lil’ GJGs got an Ascott Makati green apple foam toy which they jokingly ate.
We stayed in a two-bedroom deluxe suite which was bigger than our apartment. The size was just right for our family of four (make that five ‘coz we have yaya with us). We like the layout of the suite- one side is where the rooms are and the other is where the living, dinning and kitchen area are.
My lil’ GJGs were quite overwhelmed at how spacious our hotel room is since they’re used to staying in a room-literally.
The living room can seat up to 5 people (3-seater and two individual chairs) and has a LCD TV & a home theatre system. The dinning room can seat 4 people and is right in front of a fully operating open kitchen. The kitchen has a cooker hob & hood, a coffee maker, an electric kettle, microwave oven, rice cooker, toaster, refrigerator & freezer with complimentary bottled water, and glassware, crockery, cutlery, utensils and let’s not forget the dishwashing soap and dish sponge. The master bathroom has a bath tub & hand shower while the bathroom in the second room has a shower stall instead. Each bathroom has towels and has L’Occitane toiletries. Hair dryer and weighing scale are also provided in the master bathroom.
There’s also another room with a separate bathroom should you have a helper or yaya with you. Both are located near the laundry area at the back of the kitchen. Also, a flat iron, ironing board and a safety deposit box are tucked conveniently in one of the closets. Yes, there are about four closets in the unit. One for each room and two placed in the common areas. My kids even used these spaces to play hide and seek!
My lil’ GJGs were greeted by this adorable piggy towel placed on top of their bed. Unfortunately, the adorable piggy only lasted a few seconds. Hihi.
A king size bed and an executive writing desk in the master bedroom; a queen size bed and a writing desk in the second bedroom.
Chocolates and mangoes made us perky after settling in. While I took a tour of what Ascott has in store, my lil’ GJGs didn’t waste any opportunity and immediately went out to swim.
The 6th floor is where the lobby, fitness centre, swimming pool, tennis court, barbecue pavilion, children’s play area and Cafe on the 6th are located. While the 7th floor is where the business solutions, office suites, meeting rooms and game room are at.
Ascott Makati also offers Cubbies Activies. A once a month event filled with fun activities for children who reside in Ascott Makati. This month, the Cubbies Activity is set to happen this July 18, 2015.
Even though we weren’t able to participate in the Cubbies Activities, we felt the sincere service of Ascott Makati as they’ve arrange Cubby kits for my lil’ GJGs. My kids had so much fun coloring and doodling and building the Cubbies puzzle. They said it’s nice that even though they didn’t bring their toys with them, they get to enjoy the staycation as much as when we’re at home. It’s really the little things that make the experience worthwhile.
Ascott Makati’s fitness centre is one of the most equipped gym I’ve ever been to. Aside from the different machines, they also have TRX, kettle bells and a trainer should you need assistance with your workout. They also have in-house massage which has an option for room service.
The swimming pool is wide and the space surrounding it makes it easy to walk back and forth the open space. There’s also a children’s play area that has rubber flooring. Oh and there’s a jacuzzi too should one wants to just relax and take it easy.
My water babies enjoyed the pool as they usually do but surprisingly, they also enjoyed the jacuzzi. The warm water accompanied by bubbles and lights under made it more fun according to my kids.
Order snacks by the swimming pool from Cafe on the 6th.
The open area where the tennis court is gives a view of Glorietta 5.
The golden staircase looks like a part of an apartment somewhere else, perhaps New York? There’s a certain charm no? And the capiz light that serves at the centrepiece of the lobby is just lovely.
The game room at Ascott Makati lets you play billiard, Word Factory, chess or Wii.
After our steady afternoon, we had dinner at Cafe on the 6th. I’ll write a separate post on that because the food deserve its own spotlight.
Gabbie with Berry & Xavi.
Tin Dychiao and her family also did the staycation with us. We were seated beside each other during dinner. After a filling and hearty meal, we made a quick trip to Glorietta for some shopping.
Our room has a lovely view of the city. As per usual, we retreat to our room with happy bellies, ready to slumber.
Who can resist staying in a cozy bed on a cold, rainy night? 😀
My lil’ Ms. GJG’s doodles as she wait for everybody to get ready for breakfast.
Breakfast was at Cafe on the 6th.
I love how spacious the restaurant is. Even though it gets filled easily, it still doesn’t look nor feel crowded at all. I was surprised with Ascott Makati’s breakfast buffet because they have good selections.
You can create your own salad & congee, pick fresh fruits and freshly baked pastries and choose from the selection of charcuterie & cheese, down to the muesli and yogurt. A juice and turkey station also await you so go ahead and indulge. But if there’s one thing you shouldn’t pass on at Cafe on the 6th breakfast buffet, it’s their bacon. Crunchy, crispy, flavourful, baked (yes, not fried) bacon!
I really love buffet breakfast especially if the food is delicious. When in Ascott Makati, don’t forget to indulge in bacon and beef tapa for both are worth the calories! 😉
My lil’ champ enjoying his chocolate milk for breakfast. He raises his hand to signal the staff for a refill! Heehee.
BFFs Berry & Gabbie with Xavi & Juro.
I guess they’ve formed their own clique now.
Playtime after breakfast. That’s how a wonderful staycation should be.
Overall, our Ascott Makati was wonderful. The staff were very warm and the service was great. Aside from our spacious unit, my lil’ GJGs enjoyed the amenities particularly the pool & jacuzzi. As for me, I am surprised with the food offerings as most of what we had were good. Ascott Makati isn’t just for long term residents, although they offer good rates for people who plan on staying for a week, a month or more. It’s also a good choice for families or friends who plan on spending a relaxing time- a home away from home- within the metro. Apart from the service, food, amenities and rooms, you also get to enjoy walking around and shopping at Glorietta, Landmark, SM Makati and even Greenbelt. If this doesn’t entice you enough then I know Ascott Makati’s Mid-Year promo would.

They had fun! They said it’s one of the best staycations they had. Coming from the youngest critic in my family! 😀
