How would you know if you’ll like it if you wouldn’t try?
This is oftentimes the question I ask my kids whenever I try to introduce them to a new dish. Sometimes I catch myself thinking about this whenever I’m at the supermarket doing my weekly grocery. While it’s pretty fast to do the grocery knowing you can easily pick the products you’re so accustomed to using, I find myself always trying something new to see if it’s worth adding to our family favourites.
Recently, I’ve upped my canned goods shopping and tried a few new ones. Our pantry has a good variation of canned products simply because I like to stock on them especially for the rainy season and on days when I can’t really think of a dish to prepare my family. Being a beef lover, corned beef is one that tops my list.
Fun fact: when I was pregnant with lil’ Ms. JG I was craving for steak & when I was pregnant with lil’ Mr. JG I was craving for beef burger. Few years later and I still get that beef craving every now and then (no I’m not expecting ha) simply because I’m such a beef lover!
So one me-time trip to the grocery, I tried Highlands Gold corned beef. Aside from the no fuss, easy on the eyes packaging, what caught my attention was its made with Angus beef.
I have about 6 easy peasy dishes that I use corned beef with (sautéed, picadillo, spaghetti, torta, spring roll, & meatball). And lately I find myself loving garlic so I sautéed Highlands Gold corned beef with lots of toasted garlic which perfectly complimented that savoury angus beefy goodness.
What makes angus beef different? It has better marbling which gives better taste & texture. Food texture can be crucial to kids–my kids in particular–and once they eat something rubbery and chewy, expect that they won’t eat it again. And Highlands Gold has none of that thick tendon, just tender strips of angus beef which is why I think my kids enjoyed it.
Thinking of adding parmesan cheese and baking this garlic Highlands Gold corned beef next time. Did you know it is the only canned corned beef with Angus in the Philippines? Yes! Glad I tried it & my family likes it coz it is now a staple in our pantry.
Highlands Gold Corned Beef is available at leading supermarkets & groceries nationwide.
