My 2014 word was FOCUS. I was pretty successful focusing on what matters to me, my family in particular. Still, I feel like something was amiss. Was I too focused on others that I no longer know myself? Maybe. Was I too focused doing what I need to do every day that I’ve put aside my dreams and personal goals? May chance of a lifetime. Don’t get me wrong, I had a good 2014. Like every year, it has it’s ups and downs. I’ve also learned a lot when it comes to knowing what is truly essential and what is really valuable and they are definitely things money can’t afford to buy.
So my 2015 word is CORE. I figured it’s easy to find happiness in the most ordinary things. It’s easy to focus your energy and love to the people that matter but when you lack the knowledge on how you really want to be and who you really want to be, it cancels out the effort you put into focusing on things other than yourself.
Sometime last year I got to know myself a bit more. I was able to do DISCOVER YOUR CORE weekend with my fellow SoMoms. It was headed by no less than Coach Pia of The One Core Group. During the two-day event, I was able to dig deeper and learned a thing or two more about myself. The introvert me was really ecstatic to dissect how one (particularly myself) gets to make decisions, reacts and overall live day to day consciously or not. Admit it, most of us don’t really take time to get to know ourselves despite our eagerness to do for others.
I can sum up my Discover Your Core weekend with these three words:
Focus on awareness & assessment.Â
What makes you tick? What makes you happy? The first step is to focus on these things. Knowing what works and what doesn’t for you makes everything easier. May it be an environment, a thing or even a person. The key is not only to know your strengths but also to know your weaknesses. Write them down and be honest about it. Once you’ve figured them out ask yourself on what you can do to improve your weaknesses and to further fortify your strengths. This can also help you fine tune yourself, being able to eliminate the noise that surrounds you, only amplifying the clarity of your chosen tune.
Anchor yourself on what is clear.
Truly it all starts with you. Anchoring is when you hold on to something that empowers you, but remember that you must anchor on what is clear. Inner work is the ability to know & anchor on what is clear. It is about knowing yourself. It’s as easy and as difficult as choosing between what you like and don’t & what is right and wrong. It may sound simple but when external factors are applied in honing one’s inner work, it can be tricky. So it’s a must that you should operate your inner work unbiasedly.
In order for you to know hone your inner work, rate yourself based on these traits: MICK. Motivate. Inspire. Cheer. Kind. How are you when it comes to motivating, inspiring, cheering and being kind to yourself? Rate them from 1-5, 5 being the highest. Those you scored high are the ones you should anchor yourself on. Those that scored low, you must make an effort to bridge the gap in order for you to have high scores. In order for you to motivate, inspire, cheer and be kind to others, you must first do these to yourself. After all, you cannot give what you don’t have.
Freedom from obstacles and how you represent yourself.
When I say freedom, I do not mean that you won’t have any problems nor obstacles in life. This “freedom” is stemming from the idea that you have a good inner work (MICK) that you can easily dissect the obstacles coming your way and deal with them while at the same time maintaining a good level representing yourself.
Is the hindrance/obstacle from within (yourself) or without (external factors: people, career, environment)? Know what is it and then work your way on how you would think, feel and act towards it. Just remember that you must let your inner work function in order for you to anchor on what is clear. Here’s the thing, sometimes these hindrances/obstacles are clear but it is beyond you to do anything about it. Most of the time it’s an external issue that you cannot do anything about (whether it’s a choice you made or you’re stuck with it). Instead of racking your brains and exhausting your energy on it, just let it go. Anchor on the fact that it is clear that you cannot do anything about it. Be kind/nurturing and cheer yourself so you can better represent yourself. And when things are clear, stop looking for more ways or figuring things out.
Think, speak and act based on a level of freedom by disregarding guilt, doubt, anger or frustration. Once you’ve mastered this, you’re sure to represent yourself clearly.
It’s legit! Thank you Coach Pia for reigning over us during our DISCOVER YOUR CORE WEEKEND.

There’s nothing more promising than learning more about yourself. Discover Your Core Weekend gave me a fresh perspective and has opened my mind, body and soul that it’s okay to focus on myself from time to time.
So for 2015, it’s all about my CORE. To do an introspective approach for this year feels very timely as I feel like it was the one thing I need to do so that I can figure out my next steps, my goals and where I want to be five, ten even fifty years from now. I’m working on my inner work and hopefully, it becomes strong enough that I may make better decisions, handle obstacles and represent myself well. For now, I’ve got to trust myself that the choices I make at the moment are the best choices I have so far.
Now that I’ve shared my 2015 word which is CORE, allow me to share some of my goals for 2015 which I hope I get to fulfill.
Good core creates good abs. Heehee. Bilang hindi umabot ang abs noon 2014, I am really hoping that I can amp up my workout and have abs by the end of the year. Pangarap ko kasi talaga to e, so i-push ko na to dapat di ba?!
See the world. While I was thinking of my Christmas wish list, I couldn’t help but look at air fares and accommodations for destinations I really want to see this 2015. Everybody wants to see the world right? But resources and everyday life always get in the way, putting traveling aside. This year, my goal is to travel. Anywhere in the Philippines that I’ve never been to or if I’m lucky, somewhere in the world. So I’m saving up so I can afford to travel. No more bags, shoes and any other material things for this year (bilang quota na ko last year) saving up every piso to see the world is as exciting as getting a new bag or shoes. Crossing my fingers and legs for this!
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. This year I’m trying my very best to do the 3 Rs as I was inspired with my REnew 2015 post. I love, love, love shopping especially if everything is on sale. So much so that even if I don’t need it nor would use it, I would buy it just because it’s on sale. A mentality that I am now slowly letting go. I’m reducing, reusing and recycling. From our home even down to my wardrobe I’m reducing and sticking to basics and with what works. Kaya siguro ayaw ni Lord na magka-house kami kasi malamang hoarder na ko by now. Heehee.
These are my simple pero medyo challenging goals for this year. I really hope that I can manage to do these while being a homemaker, mother, driver, yaya and all around gal. Listing these all dow on my Mommy Mundo Mom 24/7 planner to help me organize everything. From my daily activities down to my children’s doctor visits and our family vacations.
