One of my few indulgences aside from breaking a sweat at the gym is to have time to catch some of my favorite TV shows and Cake Boss is one of them. Aside from watching how each amazing cake of Carlo’s Barkery gets created, I also enjoy the quirky antics of the Cake Boss family. Buddy Valastro’s sisters, wife and kids as well as his brothers & in-laws. It’s a total entertainment with a good mix of food & family. I remember he visited the country last year but I wasn’t able to meet him for I was in Singapore during our kids’ sembreak. Thankfully he’s back this year with another Masterclass & this time around I was able to go.
Buddy Valastro, the Cake Boss himself teaching us the basics of pipping. He shared that he started learning piping at a young age and everything a baker should know he did by hand, literally! When it comes to baking, it’s all bout muscle memory especially with pipping. The gently strokes of your hand, the way your wrist delicately moves to get that perfect shape.
So it was our turn to practice what we learned from Buddy. I tell ya being creative isn’t my strong suit all the more trying to pipe and thinking of a design. I used to watch my mom and aunt bake and create cakes for family and I always thought it was as easy as it looks. Totally, totally wrong about it. Hahaha!
One of the chefs during the masterclass who helped all the participants with the basics. No photos in between my piping because I was struggling trying to get the right grip, angle and just enough pressure to squeeze the bag. Sobrang focused ko guuuuys! After about a few minutes…
Tadaaaaah! Here’s what I came up with. Pwede na for a first-timer? Yes, yes? 🙂
All smiles because my cupcakes were approved by Cake Boss himself Buddy Valastro.
Guess I’m a certified Cupcake Boss na! Heehee. Thank you TLC Asia for a fun afternoon of learning!
