Everyone has this one crazy idea that they’ve always thought about. They may have shared it in passing to someone or have kept it to themselves because they think it’s ridiculously crazy. Most of the time that certain idea is something that can bring about change, making life easier or better. The idea we always think of when we know that things, situation and events could be better. I myself have one or two crazy ideas. What makes them crazy? Well, they’re far fetch, almost impossible to create or achieve unless I become a billionaire or someone powerful enough to make it as an innovation. But what if I tell you that Philips is running an innovations campaign and your best kept (or not) thought could be the crazy-one-of-a-kind idea that they are looking for?
At Philips we believe people should be healthy, live well and enjoy life. We are a technology company that cares about people. We listen, discover and challenge to deliver meaningful innovation. Innovation that Matters to You Campaign by Philips underlines our commitment to deliver meaningful innovation that improves the quality of people’s lives in Asia Pacific. It aims to help build sustainable and livable living and working environments, promote healthy eating habits, active aging and personal- and childcare and establishing affordable and accessible healthcare systems and effective ways to dealing with chronic diseases. Through the Innovation that Matters to You Campaign, we work together, partner with individuals, communities and other stakeholders to combine insights with expertise, technology with funding, to deliver meaningful innovation that make a real difference in helping people live healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives.
I, together with the SoMoms and SoDad were invited for lunch at the Philips office to know more about the campaign. The Philips Innovations campaign initially kicked off in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Korea, but has been launched here in the Philippines to adhere to the company’s goal of providing people with meaningful solutions that can ultimately improve the quality of their lives. The campaign also seeks to leverage on technology as an important tool in making life better for everyone.
“The campaign is a call for people to innovate, to combine their ingenuity with technological resources, to develop health and well-being solutions that can benefit the public, especially those belonging to marginalized sectors” said Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno, Country Manager of Philips in the Philippines. As a technological innovator, we at Philips look forward to collaborating with them on making our communities safer places to live in, our families healthier, and giving our communities access to proper medical diagnosis and assessment, particularly in the area of non-communicable diseases.

Submit your ideas whether big or small as long as you know you can help make a difference to the Filipino family’s health, safety, lifestyle or even the well-being of a certain community. Ideas should be realistic, impactful, and should fall under one of the three idea categories given. A select panel of subject matter experts shall then shortlist six ideas that meets Philips’ objective of creative positive change. The individuals/organizations behind these six suggestions will then undergo a mentorship workshop with some of the Philippines’ respected visionaries, to further fine-tue their ideas, and make them more actionable. Philips will then select one winning idea, and implement the chosen innovation in 2014.
Here’s a step by step process of how the Philips Innovations Campaign works.
GUIDELINES:
- Realistic – This means that there should be resources available to develop or implement your idea.
- Relevant – Your suggestions should tackle the three core ideas that Philips hopes to make a difference in – livable cities, proper nutrition, and access to healthcare.
- People-Centric – Your idea should be able to make a positive change in the lives of many, not just a select group of people.
- Innovative – Your idea should be fresh, creative, and has never been done in the Philippines before.
Philips is focused on offering innovative products and services that help improve people’s health and well-being. This objective is actively supported by its three sectors- Lighting, Consumer Lifestyle, and Healthcare.
If you have any idea please don’t hesitate to submit them! May it be a lighting project in your community, a way to disseminate food nutrition to remote areas or a mobile app to help someone track his or her health issues, submit them away for there is no idea limit per person. Who knows, your idea can be the one thing that can help a family, a community, even a nation.
