I was so tempted to write: Monday Make Up: BYS Make Up 101 but that would be redundant. heehee. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see I microblog there real time but if you haven’t go na and follow me! Anyway, this post is dedicated to all the ladies or pwede din beckies (helleeeer!) who love make up! Yes, obvious naman sa title di vez? I love make up, I’ve even posted a few of my favorite make ups here on the blog (check them here, here, here, and here) I can also confidently say that I can put them on me although not professionally but still, its decent enough that I can go out wearing them.
So when BYS invited the SoMoms one weekend morning for a make up session, aba aba aba, ang mga mothers game na game and everyone immediately said yes!
Remember this cute invite that had a kabuki brush? OMG I have to say the brush is so soft I don’t mind applying make up on my face with it all day long!
BYS is the most exiciting, fun and fashionable cosmetic brand in the market today. It was established in 2004 in Australia. And today, it is found in over 30 countries worldwide. In the UK, France, South Africa, parts of the Asia and Middle East, and Japan, its largest market outside of Australia

This constant flow of new products keeps the brand exciting and has largely contributed to its growth worldwide.

It’s all about affordable beauty.
Excerpts from the introduction of Ms. Angie Goyena, General Manager of BYS Philippines.
So before we started on the actual application, we learned first about the basics specifically skin care.
Uh huh. As tempting as it is to just skip having a skin care regimen, one shouldn’t. Skin care is important in achieving a beautiful canvas (your face) where you can slather on all the paint (make up) that you want. Makes sense, yes? 🙂
Here’s a chart where you can find the shelf life of your favorite products. You can also know how many months a product can be used once opened by checking on the label. It usually says 24M which means it can be used within 24 months beside a cylindrical shape (pertaining to the product). But as for me, if the consistency has changed (oil separates from base like on a liquid foundation) and just downright looks and smells different, throw it away! You’d rather do that than still use it and let your skin take the consequences.
Here’s a quick guide on contouring and knowing which part of your face should you highlight. As what Shen of Shen’s Addiction said, “make up is a play of shadows, highlighting some areas to define it and contouring some areas to give shadow and depth”. Naks, tama ba pagkaka-quote ko syo Shen? 😀
Okay, you all know I’m semi obsessed with eyebrows and I’m supposed to write a post about it and how to achieve the perfect shape for each face. Thankfully, the team behind this BYS workshop showed us the proper shape. Here’s an illustration of how to achieve perfect brows.
Hmm, i-eexplain ko pa ba sa inyo o gets nyo na? haha. To get the right length use an eyebrow pencil or even a brush as guide. Place it vertically beside your nose as seen with points A & B. If there’s excess hair on point B then I suggest trim it, shave it off or pluck it. Next, do the same for the other end by connecting points A & C. Again trim any excess hair. Horizontally connect the end of points B & C. As for the arch, connect points E & D by placing your eyeliner or brush at the side of your iris. If your arch isn’t near that area then I suggest go to a brow bar and have the experts fix it for you. Heehee.
Here’s a guide of the parts of the eye so you have an idea when it comes to applying the right make up. I don’t have crease on my eyes coz they’re almond shape and weird that way, so parang lid lang ata. LOL
So I arrived without make, 3 hours of sleep and lotsa pimples. Yes, nagdadalaga ako! Haha. Weird (okay, I’ve used this word too many times in this post) that six months after giving birth the pimple family decided to have a reunion and chose my face as their venue. To think I was pimple-free when I was pregnant ha. Hahahay!
Here’s the loot of BYS make up we used during the session. Grabe, I wished I had more time to do more looks. So addicting, look at the eye shadow palette! Eeeeep so pretty!
Honestly, I was surprised when I tried their products. They can pass off as those expensive coveted brands. Don’t worry I’ll make a review separately for each BYS products that I’ve tried. But just to give you an idea my top five choices are: BYS slanted eyebrow pencil (which is waxy, perfect for stubborn eyebrow hair), BYS make up primer, BYS compact foundation, BYS bronzer and of course BYS lipstick (bright shades!). Ayayayay, I think five isn’t enough but nonetheless these were calling out to me, all exceed my expectations.
I wasn’t able to take photos of myself while doing my make up because I was so busy making chika with the SoMoms and the BYS beauty experts but I’ll leave you with the photos I took instead.
This is my “no make up/ morning” look. Okay, very much Camilla Belle my eyebrows. I had a little too much fun with their slanted eyebrow pencil and got carried away. I stayed neutral with no eyeshadow but there’s a little eye liner and opted with a blush shade of lipstick.
Now for my evening look. Since my eyebrows were already well-defined and bold, I decided I add a little ooomph by experimenting on colors. And because green is my favorite, I chose the emerald eyeshadow for a smokey eye effect topped with wing-tipped eyeliner and a more bright colored pink lipstick.
It’s all about the blending. Sabeeeeh?
Here’s my make up on natural light.
I only know one technique when it comes to applying make up on my eyes. That’s the smokey effect. I’ve learned that when I was young as I had to do my own make up during castings. First it was taught by my mom until eventually I had the chance to learn it from different workshops and make up artists. I promise I’ll make a tutorial (naaaaks, pagbigyan na kahit di naman ganap na MUA/ beauty blogger) on how to do it- the GJG way haha. But you can check out the blogs of Shen, Martha, Angela, Liz and Tara for make up tutorials as they’ve got tons posted on their sites.
What an achievement I made that day! I together with Shen.
The SoMoms from left (Tin of Manila Fashion Observer, Cai of Apples & Dumplings, Jenny of Chronicles of A Nursing Mom, Janice of My Mundo, Fleur or Mommy Fleur, Michelle of My Mom Friday, Jen of Next9, Eli of The Painter’s Wife, Kris of OC Mom In Manila and yours truly) all made up, thank you BYS. Ang gaganda lang namin! Ahihihi.

Here’s my BYS loot. Haymosoeggcited to use them! 🙂 Giddy giddy me!
Remember, make ups are used to enhance one’s features and beauty not cover it altogether!
