The first thing that crosses one’s mind whenever she hears the word “hardware store” is tools. It is as synonymous to man as shoes & bags are synonymous to a woman. But thankfully in our modern time, hardware stores have evolved and has become a one stop shop not only for daddies but also for mommies and kids.
Speaking of hardware stores, Handyman recently held a family day at their Robinsons Place Manila branch. The event aimed to showcase the different merchandise any member of the family might need. Luckily, I was one of the few bloggers who were able to participate in the event. Take a look at what happened that fun-filled day.
The activity includes roaming inside Handyman store, do the challenges from the 9 demo booth stations. Complete the challenges to earn a stamp and get a clue from each one of them. The clues will help you guess the mystery item that you’ll have to look for inside the store, this serves as the final challenge. It’s like a mini-Amazing Race where the first five families to finish the challenge and complete the stamps and find the mystery item win a special prize. As for the other families who still completed the challenges, they also get loot bags full of goodies from the brands Hanydman carries plus a chance to be one of the 5 winners of P20,000 worth of Cebu Pacific Gift Certificates in the raffle draw. How amazingly cool is that?!
Here’s the store map that participants used to navigate their way inside the Handyman store. I have to say, it is one of the biggest stores I’ve ever been to. Plus, baller band that participating members of the family should wear.

with Michelle of My Mom Friday.
My family all ready to take on the challenges. Bring it on!
Our first stop: Firefly demo booth where you have to shoot three rings in any of the poles.
This is me obviously enjoying doing the challenge heehee.
Second stop: Black & Decker demo booth where you have to screw and unscrew screws on a piece of wood.
Third stop: Baygon demo booth where you have to answer a word puzzle.
Fourth stop: Bosch demo booth. I wasn’t able to take a photo as I was the one who did the challenge that is to drill screws on a plywood. Good thing Michelle was able to capture me doing it. I never knew drilling could be easy, this made me realize that I can do manly things after all. 🙂
Fifth stop: Eco Sense demo booth wherein you have to participate in the water saving comparison between an Eco Sense shower head and another brand.
Sixth stop: Command demo booth where you have to answer a trivia.
Three more to go plus the mystery item and I’m done!
Seventh stop: Primero demo booth where you pick a set of answers to choose from and enter the correct one on the electronic lock.
Eight stop: Breville demo booth where you choose what challenge to do. Since I picked a challenge called “eating” I thought all I have to do is eat! But learned I have to guess at least three ingredients of a margarita pizza, it was easy and I was able to eat the pizza afterwards heehee.
The yummy margarita pizza! Can you name at least three ingredients that make this delicious pizza?
Ninth stop: Do It Best Quality Paints demo booth where you have to answer the right color when you mix and combine two different colors.
One of the clues, can you guess the mystery item? 🙂
You guessed right, it’s Wishy Washy Liquid Hand Soap!
Yay! We finished the challenges and guessed the mystery item.
There were a lot of families who came and participated in the event. It was definitely a nice way to bond and enjoy a trip to the hardware store.
The first one to finish the challenges and guess the mystery item which made her win a Turbo Vac! I may not be one of the first five families to complete the challenges but my family and I sure had fun answering trivia and doing the challenges that involved skills. Yes, skills I never even thought I have!
There was also a free art class limited to 40 kids. Sadly Gabbie wasn’t able to join as she fell asleep during the time of the scheduled art class; I’m sure she would’ve love to paint and color.
Do It Best Quality Paints were used during the art class as they are safe for kids.
And after all the fun activities, we were treated to a free milk tea from Happy Lemon.
Mr. GJG and lil’ Ms. GJG enjoying their milk teas.
Enjoying our milk teas, it’s a perfect way to end the fun-filled day.

And a lot of assorted products from different brands Handyman carries. Thank you again Handyman for a fun-filled day you’ve organized for me and my family and to the hundreds of families who participated in your event. Thank you also to Michelle for generously lending me some of her photos.
Again like what I’ve said before, malling is one of the few activities Filipino families do almost on a weekly basis. It is one of the things we like to do as a way of spending time and bonding with our families. Now that we know that a hardware store such as Handyman offer a wide variety of products meant to provide the needs not only of handyman dads, but also of homemakers, and even crafty tools for kids, it sure is another store to visit whenever you and your family plan a trip to the mall.
