Looking at our photos from our Singapore trip, I still can’t believe how it was by far the most relaxed and fun trip we’ve had as a family. I keep on thinking about the things we did, the places we went to, the food we ate and our overall experience.
There are lot of things that made our visit the most memorable one by far. While I want to ramble my way into sharing them all, I’ve decided to just narrow it down to 10 things we love about Singapore and why it’ll always be one of the top vacation destinations for me and my family.
SINGAPORE HAS MANY ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM
I know when traveling elsewhere accommodation is one of the things we parents always prioritize. Wherever part of Singapore you plan to stay–Clarke Quay, Chinatown, Orchard Road or Sentosa to name a few–there are more than a handful of hotels to choose from.
Our family stayed at Swissotel in Clarke Quay.
Our kids loved our room and its view.
We could see the colourful Clarke Quay right outside our room.
And from inside our room our view was Swissotel’s pool and Blue Potato bar.
Much as we wanted to stay in our hotel room, we find ourselves waking up early everyday because we always looked forward to breakfast buffet. It definitely set us good each day before exploring the city.
We could also see Marina Bay Sands from our hotel.
IT HAS CHARMING NEIGHBORHOODS
One of the places we went to was Tiong Bahru. We stumbled upon a street filled with quaint shops and restaurants–it was a breath of fresh air to walk around the area that’s not full of people.
Did you know that Tiong Bahru is a mish mash of old and new? Some of the architectures have been preserved, giving the district the old charm.
Apartments that can pass as art itself.
We eent inside Plain Vanilla Bakery to check it out.
Surprised to see kitchen and other home items on sale aside from cupcakes and pastries inside Vanilla Bakery.
Cutie bookstore called Woods in the Books where they sell unique books (and also art supplies) for kids and kids at heart.
My kids & I were so mesmerised with this book vending machine located right outside Woods in the Books.
BUSY YET CLEAN STREETS
As mom, cleanliness is my thing! So you can imagine how delighted I was to see the clean streets of Singapore. There were designated trash areas on streets and we did not see one piece of trash littered in places we went to.
I also observed how Singapore managed to preserve some of their oldest architectures. From colonial store fronts down to their old courthouse turned National Gallery.
Even the walls are clean!
CITY IN A GARDEN
Singapore is one city that literally translates unity of concrete & nature. So refreshing to see the pockets of greens infused on some infrastructures.
EFFICIENT AND EASY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION
One of the reasons why our Singapore vacation was hassle-free because of the efficient mode of transportation. You can ride a bus, a cab or a train to get to where you need to go. The best part? It’s easy to navigate the train system.
Small kids below 0.9m ride for free!
WE GENUINELY FELT SAFE
I’ve never been this comfortable taking public transportation with my kids. They’ve been begging us to let the ride a train or a bus for the longest time so they were pretty excited that they finally rode one and it’s in Singapore!
It wasn’t crowded during the time we rode the MRT so my Instagram daughter, Gabbie took a photo of my #OOTD. She said ‘Mom, stand there so I can take your picture while there’s no people!’
Meanwhile while waiting for our train, this lil’ guy asked me to take his picture!
Family selfie before boarding the train. We love commuting in Singapore!
My kids were pretty excited riding the train for the first time. They liked how comfy & clean it was.
Quick tip: wear comfy shoes so that you can walk around and be out the whole day without having aching feet. 😉
THERE’S ALWAYS A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN SHOP
We have a mall culture back in our home so it was very normal for my kids & I to visit a mall or two even when we’re in another country. Of course, Singapore did not disappoint. There are malls in most places we’ve been to which makes it easier for my kids and I to shop for the things thats not available back home.
A visit at a toy store is always a must for my kids.
Free popcorn and cotton candy at Toys R Us Vivo City since it just opened!
I’ve recently become a sneakerhead so I was thrilled to see there are so many nice pairs that are not available back home.
So many shoes that I want! I was eyeing particularly on this New Balance pair!
Of course I didn’t pass on shopping for clothes!
Just some of my picks from my favorite stores.
I got myself some charms to remind me of this memorable trip.
THEY HAVE A NATIONAL LIBRARY BUILDING
For someone who loves reading, this was huge for me! Singaporeans can access the national library as they please. This makes me want to live in Singapore. Teehee.
FUN NIGHT LIFE
As I mentioned on my previous post, we walked around Clarke Quay during one of our free nights to get dinner and we witnessed how vibrant the night life was in Singapore. Whether you’re out to party at a the club or you’re just enjoying a quite night. Singapore’s got you covered.
SEEING MY SISTER-IN-LAW!
One of the highlights of our Singapore trip was seeing my favorite sister-in-law! She’s super close to me and my kids so it was such a treat to finally visit her in her new home. She’s been based early this year in Singapore so I guess this means we’ll visit the country more often now. 😉
The culture, the people, the food and the sights were definitely the reasons why we loved Singapore. It’s family friendly and even though you don’t have an itinerary there are a lot of things you can do randomly–visit a museum, shop along Orchard Road, explore Tiong Bahru or have a night cap at Clarke Quay.
