As I mentioned during my recent OOTD post, my family, along with our friends went to Thunderbird Resort in Poro Point during the visit of Pope Francis January of this year. It was through our friend Carlo, who arranged the whole trip, that we had the chance to visit this not-so-hidden-gem of Poro Point in La Union.
Thunderbird Resorts – Poro Point is a 65-hectare, Mediterranean-inspired luxury resort that overlooks the West Philippine Sea. With architectural themes influenced by the Santorini Islands of Greece, the resort is composed of a world-class hotel with dining, entertainment and gaming facilities that would surely live up to your dream destination.ย
The 4-5 hour drive from Manila takes you to this beautiful Santorini-inspired resort up north.
Adult & kiddie pools just below the hotel lobby.
The Cliffs Beach Club is a short walk from the rooms & villas.ย
The villas are actual houses that are mostly private-owned.
Here’s our three-bedroom villa. It’s perfect since we’re three families, we figured it’s more fun to spend five days in the paradise together.
Our villa even has its own mini gazebo where we can actually grill & chill.
Upon entering our villa, the dinning area sits right in front. On the left is the first bedroom while the right one leads to a maid’s quarter and common bathroom.
Open kitchen fronting the living room.
The first floor room.
The living room leads to a veranda which opens up toย an incredible view.
Yep. Our backyard is the golf course!
The second floor is whereย the two more rooms are.
While the third floor opens up to a roof top.
During our first day, we had our quick lunch atย Olives Restaurant. A good lunch is the perfect way to break in & completely emerge to total relaxation at Thunderbird.
Classic Italian Lasagna
Chicken Florentine with Spinach Pasta
Thunderbird All Meat Pizza
Pizza Ilokano
This Vigan longganisa pizza is one to remember.
Lil’ Ms. GJG & Mr. GJG post-lunch happiness ๐
While the adults were watching live updates of Pope Francis being in Manila, the kids went crazy running around. It isn’t too often that they get to do this back in Manila.
Run pa more!
The only thing aside from running that captured my lil’ GJGs hearts is swimming. In the five days we stayed at Thunderbird, swimming was their top priority.
The lil’ posse still in pajamas but ready to swim na!
Lil’ Ms. GJG requested a few minutes on the playground too since she seldom goes to one back home.
When you’re on a beach vacation, there’s really nothing you can do but lounge around & enjoy.
My boys having a one-on-one teaching & bonding moment. My super likot lil’ Mr. GJG insist he swim without floaters because he finds it uncomfortable. As if we’re gonna let that happen especially when he’s in the big pool di ba?
So he went back to the kiddie pool instead. Freeeedooooom! Hihi
My once very afraid lil’ Ms. GJG can now go under water! She loves swimming but hasn’t really tried going under. During this trip, she challenged herself when she saw herย godbrothers confidently swimming with their goggles on. Ayan, the competitive girl didn’t miss the chance to prove she can also do it. And she did!
The mermaid in me preferred the beach more than the pool.
Cream-colored sand and cool water make the beach of Thunderbird Resort.
Dad-daughter bonding time.
My kids love the beach as much as they love the pool.
While the kids play, this momma gets a “me-time”
But then Mr. GJG got in the way, so emote time na lang! LOL
Great view of the sunset.
When you’ve got a golf course as your backyard, there’s nothing left to do but run around & enjoy the view.
The GJGs with our friends the De Leons & the Hungs.
We went to the highest part of the golf course and witnessed the beautiful setting of the sun.
Hashtag no filter, no edit. Super nice the hues of pink & purple noh? Gandara Park!
Lil’ Ms. GJG with her godbrother Migo in matching stripes. Here she’s wearing an Elin dress & Bensimon sneakers.
The next generation all smiles & being silly after spending five days in this beautiful resort that is Thunderbird.
So grateful that we get to go on vacations like this. Like I said, I’m all about investing on traveling now more than ever, whether its local or even a staycation. Because moments like this won’t happen again and our kids are growing up so fast! Thanks again to our friends Carlo & Rach for arranging this trip! Excited for our future adventures!

Hi ,
Great blog and indeed a very nice place Thunderbird Poro Point.
I just want to ask you if you notice the CONDOTEL building still under construction
last year when I was there April. Is that building already finished and if it is also now
ready for occupancy to patrons. I am planning to go there again this year and would
like to stay on the new Condotel if it is operational.
Thanks and Really nice of you promoting Thunderbird.
Cheers
CDavid

Hi CDavid, I’m not sure what condole you’re pertaining to but there are rooms for rent at Thunderbird Poro Point. Best to check their website for more information.

Hi Jackie,
What is the maximum capacity of a three bedroom villa? You have mentioned that you were with two more families, were you all able to fit in one villa?
Lovely and informative post! ๐
Jackie Go says
Hi Karen!
Three families can fit in one villa. I am just not sure what’s the maximum capacity but in total there were 6 adults, 7 kids (ages 2-10) and 3 yayas. 16 pax in total. ๐ As far as I know, they didn’t do a head count naman and were very lenient. We even asked for extra towels, pillow and blankets. I hope this helps!
