This week’s sweet treat is Sugar Gourmet. I’m no sweet treat expert but I like it and I appreciate it, so when Leah of Sugar Gourmet sent me some of her cakes & brownies, I didn’t think twice because A. I like discovering new things, particularly food. B. I like to share what I discover and C. it’s sweets, need I say more? 😉
Fellow sweet tooth lovers, meet Sugar Gourmet.
Sugar Gourmet is the brainchild of Leah Mendania. She’s a professional accountant turned homebaker. Spending time with her baby and wooing what she loves doing as a foodie led her to start Sugar Gourmet in 2009. She started baking cheesecakes and frozen brazo for her family until eventually, an aunt referred her to be a concessionaire for a hotel. Now she supplies to three establishments and have grown her product line.
CHOCOLATE CAKE
Moist chocolate cake layers filled with whipped ganache and candied walnuts.
The whipped ganache balances out the moist chocolate cake.
The center is wedged with candied walnuts, adding crunch and texture in every bite. Told ya it’s not your usual chocolate cake. 😉
CARROT CAKE
Moist cake filled generously with carrots, walnuts and raisins topped with cream cheese frosting and dusted with cinnamon.
What I like about Sugar Gourmet’s Carrot Cake is that it’s not too heavy. Di ba some carrot cakes are too moist and compact that a spoonful looks & feels like a thick blob? Sugar Gourmet’s has just the right consistency.
BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE
Baked cheesecake that is rich and creamy on a graham cracker crust topped generously with blueberries.
The creamy cheese was sweeter than saltier. I don’t know maybe it’s just me but I like cheesecake based desserts to be more creamy salty creamy than creamy sweet or a least have both flavors in.
LEMON WALNUT TORTE
Layers of crisp meringue generously laden with roasted whole walnuts and filled in between with tangy lemon curd and covered with freshly whipped cream.
Surprised with myself because I only love lemon on my salad & drink and not much on dessert. First time I’ve truly love a lemon cake! Move over mango torte, Sugar Gourmet’s Lemon Walnut Torte is something to love.
The lemon flavor married with the crunch meringue & walnut gives the right balance. The perfect dessert for people who aren’t a fan of chocolate based cakes. It’s my favorite cake from the bunch Leah sent me.
Here are some of Sugar Gourmet’s brownies.
TURTLE BROWNIE
Dense fudge brownie with intense chocolate flavor topped with caramel and toasted pecans.
FOOD FOR THE GODS
Sweet and chewy dates with walnuts and honey make a delicious golden bar of cake.
CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER BROWNIE
A fudge brownie filled with peanuts and topped with peanut butter frosting and glazed with chocolate on top.
ROCKY ROAD
A fudge brownie filled with walnuts and marshmallows and topped with more marshmallows drizzled with chocolate.
CHESS SQUARE
Baked cheesecake that is rich and creamy on top of a dense cake.
CAPPUCCINO BROWNIE
A fudge brownie filled with walnuts and topped with cream cheese frosting and glazed on top with chocolate.
The Turtle and Cappuccino brownies are my favourites as these brownies captured my love for chocolate and coffee! You can order Sugar Gourmet through their website or through City Delivery. You can view the price list HERE. Thanks again Leah for introducing me to your baby! I can’t get over how I love the Lemon Walnut Torte. I now have a non-chocolate base cake added to my dessert arsenal 😀
