Back in the 90s where brownouts (power interruptions) were usual because of the shortage of electrical power supply, it was a struggle to do anything because brownouts in a tropical country feels like being inside an oven. There are two things one can do during times like these: A. stay home, listen to the radio, light a candle and fan your heart out until power comes back B. drive out and head to an open establishment like a hotel, a mall, a convenience store, or anywhere that has back up power.  We would most of the time go for option B especially when power interruptions strike at night. I remember my parents would bring my sisters and I to Shakey’s in West Avenue. All you 80s and 90s kids would know why.

Apart from the food, we come to Shakey’s because it was the only pizza parlour that has…wait for it.. a mini-carousel ride! I remember my sisters and I would shriek with delight whenever there’s power shortage because it’ll prompt our parents to bring us to Shakey’s! Remembering it now made me feel sentimental as Shakey’s has given good times and great memories to me and my family.

Speaking of Shakey’s, did you know that 1954 was the year Shakey’s Pizza launched their first parlour in America? Two decades after and the very first Shakey’s Pizza parlour opened here in Philippines, that was in 1975 in the city of Makati. Since then the brand exhibits a change in image and ambiance to feature the present family-oriented, wholesome and clean atmosphere.  Constantly in tune with their roots, the brand maintains the warmth and familiarity that have made their stores a sensation.

Six decades after and Shakey’s Pizza is introducing yet another amazing innovation with the latest addition to their line-up of beloved dishes. The new Shakey’s Pizza 1954. It’s a salute to the amazing taste that has built the brand and made Shakey’s a name in creating good times and great memories.

Now Shakey’s is giving us a chance to create more good times and memories as they’re holding a Throwback Contest inspired by their 1954 Pizza.
