A few weeks ago, I received a package from Wikki Stix, a set of colorful pieces of yarn dipped in food-grade safe wax – the kind used in bubble gum and lipstick.
They are non-toxic and gluten-free, which makes them an ideal creative activity and kids crafts toy for children with allergies. Although Gabbie doesn’t have any allergies, it’s good to know that Wikki Stix only uses the safest food-grade wax. So I won’t be too paranoid whenever she unconsciously touch her face while playing with it, thinking it might poison her or something. Yes, pranny goose lang pag may time. 😉
How do they work?
Wikki Stix can be easily bent, twisted, and shaped into various creations that will stick to themselves and almost all smooth surfaces.
No glue, no mess, and endlessly reusable. Just press ‘em down, peel ‘em off… it’s that simple! Wikki Stix are easy and CLEAN!
Wikki Stix comes in different sizes and packaging for various purposes, making them perfect for all occasions from kids crafts, birthday parties to classroom lessons. Great for quiet play and keeping kids occupied on road trips, long flights and meal times too!
Whether you’re a teacher working with children or just a frustrated parent looking to keep your kid seated through dinner, if you’re looking to bring some novelty into everyday learning for kids, Wikki Stix might JUST be the answer.
Gabbie is such a curious kid but she also gets bored easily. It’s a bit hard to keep up with a toddler who likes to explore and experiment most of the time especially if there’s limited space and resources (read: toys, crafts and sometimes knick knacks aka kalat heehee).
So when she saw the package, immediately she asked what it was and when I opened, she curiously figured out what they were. Referring to them at “stick toys”.
Upon seeing the strips of Wikki Stix, she gleefully pointed at each one, describing their colors and counting them. It instantly became an educational tool.
Without teaching her, she excitedly placed each Wikki Stix on the paper, slowly forming the image.
I love that she gets creative enough to alternately use the different colors included in the pack. Also, because the kit is about creating a picture by connecting each Wikki Stix, she was able to exercise her counting skills as she had to follow each number to form the image.
“Look Mommy, a horse!”
Here she is trying to intertwine two Wikki Stix to create a human stick.
And she successfully did! Yay 🙂
After finishing creating the images on each pack, playing with the extra sticks prompted her to create her favorite shape, a heart. She proudly calls my attention, showing off the blue heart she made.
We love Wikki Stix because unlike modeling clay, it is far from messy and unlike blocks, you’re not limited to pre-set shapes. It is very versatile and you can practically create anything with it. You can also freely stick it on walls, (although most moms would dislike the idea heehee) paper, glass tables, rubber mats and almost any surface, plus removing is also as easy as sticking it. It is also a great tool when it comes to teaching, as your child can create and interpret shapes, letters, numbers and so on. We even ended up using it while we’re practicing writing Gabbie’s name. I actually recommend it as a gift to your kids and godkids. They’re handy and can be brought to play during car rides of even long trips.
