Summeeeeerrrr. The scorching heat prompts me to wear light fabrics and anything short. But sometimes, I find wearing just a plain tank top and shorts too casual even for a trip to the mall. Recently, I’ve learned to love kimonos instead of cardigans (wearing one is a no-no during summer). Kimonos have been currently favorite piece to achieve that layered look. I’d like to think they’ve become a must in every woman’s wardrobe. You know, I never really thought I’d like kimonos, for the longest time, I’ve veered away from anything loose since it makes me look bigger. But since I like layering, I thought I’d give it a shot. I even posted two kimono outfits as seen here and here. Now, its something that I throw on top of my plain tank tops or shirts to give me that “dressed” look.
I love this kimono, ever since I got this from Maggie Wilson during the Blogger’s United bazaar last year, I’ve been practically wearing this every week.
An errand in the city, a quick trip to the grocery or an afternoon at the park for a picnic, this outfit is so summer ready.
I’m such a tank top kind of girl, especially on days when I can’t figure out what to wear (we all have days like that right?) thankfully, kimonos/cover ups are no longer just for resort wear but have become a staple even for city dwellers. Notice how better my outfit looks with it than just wearing a white tank top and shorts?
Change the shoes to strappy heels and you can wear this on a hot (literally) date night.
Tone down the look by changing the white tank top to a darker color such as navy blue to make it more dramatic.
Apart from layering the clothes, you can also pile on accessories. Choose neck pieces of different lengths to give emphasis.
THE OUTFITEY:
White tank top: Cotton On
Shorts: Forever 21
Floral Kimono: Topshop
Necklaces: Stockton Row
Sandals: Etienne Aigner

Hi Liz!
You’re welcome! I never thought I’d love kimonos as much as I love blazers. 🙂
