I’m not new to essential oils. In fact I didn’t know I was already a fan long before EO made it mainstream as I was inclined towards products that have natural essential oils more than those artificial ones. While I’ve tried and used three brands already, DōTERRA being my fourth brand is the first one I’m featuring here on the blog.
Essential oils have long been used as ingredient to most products we use daily– skin care, makeup, other personal toiletries even laundry products– but their concentration isn’t as potent as the essential oils marketed by brands like DōTERRA. Since relocating here in Dubai, I’ve made it my quest to simplify things to help me reduce stress. From minimizing my closet, keeping our home items to necessary (not even decorating as much as I used to), down to my daily ritual–and blending oils to diffuse at night has become a huge part of it.
I discovered DōTERRA essential oils from Vicky, who is aptly called @theessentialqueen on Instagram. She is one of the pioneer DōTERRA founders in Manila/ She is also a certified infant massage trainer and NAHA certified aromatherapist. So if there’s one woman who knows her essential oils, it’s Vicky.
Vicky has conducted A LOT of essential oil workshops, most of them are free, she especially encourages those who are interested to start with their EO journey to attend her virtual classes first to really get to know not just the oils but the brand as well.
I’m not nearly at Vicky’s level of knowledge when it comes to EO but I’m proud to say that I’ve been more mindful of consuming and using products that are as close to nature as possible. With all the toxins that we’re exposed to daily, making small changes especially with things we use is a step towards longevity–and this to me is my ultimate goal.
So I got the starter kit a few months ago and have been religiously using the diffuser every night. The anxiety that Covid has given me is something I cannot shake off easily. Especially when I hear news about the Philippines’ cases and even here in the UAE I get a bout of anxiety and it gets heightened whenever I read posts of friends, family and colleagues mourning for the lost of their loved one. While I try my best to limit exposure to sad and negative news, the empath in me cannot help it.
Diffusing 4 drops of Lavender and 2 drops of Frankincense for a good night’s sleep has been very helpful for me to counter all the anxiety and negative emotion I absorb on a day to day basis.
Diffusing DōTERRA oils has become a part of my night time routine. Just as important as doing skin care religiously, setting the mood for sleep sets you up for the next day. As the weather transitioned here in Dubai, I experienced allergic rhinitis once again. While I usually take medicine for it, I decided to try and diffuse DōTERRA oils instead. So I diffused 4 drops Breathe 3 drops Lavender. Slept soundly and woke up the next day with allergic rhinitis at bay.
Now I’m going to be honest and say that I like diffusing essential oils more than using it as a topical solution, let alone add drops in my drink. But there were three occasions that prompted me to try applying DigestZen directly on my abdominal as I was experiencing cramps that varied from poking, jabbing, sharp shooting and general pain that seemed like diarrhea but wasn’t. I’ve been having digestive issues occasionally (whenever I eat inflammatory foods) so I know that these discomforts were temporary and since I don’t really have any medicine for it, I decided to try applying DigestZen on my abdominal to ease malaise. Lo and behold, minutes after applying it the pain was gone. All three instances having different cramping sensation were pacified by DigestZen. I was so amazed by it! So much so that when we eat out on weekends, I bring my DigestZen with me (just in case my stomach acts up unexpectedly). I’ve officially become an EO believer!
And as if my stomach discomfort wasn’t enough to make me fall in love with DōTERRA oils, I’ve found another essential must-have product– Deep Blue Rub. Thankfully it’s a rare occasion that I get super sore muscles, body aches and pains that needed treatment. But since I’ve committed to running 250 kilometers quarterly for 2021, I’ve experienced shin splints. My inner lower right leg muscles feel like they’re being pulled away from each other and every stride I take gives a sharp shooting pain. While I still tried running with it, at some point I just couldn’t anymore because the pain is no longer bearable and has become persistent even if I just walk.
This was the perfect chance to try DōTERRA Deep Blue Rub. It’s claim to fame is it provides a cooling and soothing sensation. The first time I applied it I didn’t feel any cooling sensation but I felt a soothing sensation. I assume my muscle in this area was so beaten up that its become somewhat numb (except whenever I pinch/poke it). But after resting a week from running and applying this daily, my right inner shin felt better. I finally felt that cool comforting sensation (without the burn) and have fell in love with Deep Blue Rub ever since. If you’re an athlete athletan (loves working out, doing sports or just moving around) like I am, this is something you should have in your home. Include it in your first aid kit or gym item. It’s such a life (muscle) saver!
If you’re in Manila or anywhere in the Philippines, you can get your DōTERRA oils via instagram.com/theessentialqueen. You can send Vicky a direct message if you want to know more about essential oils or would want to order DōTERRA kits. They frequently offer promos and packages as well.
And if you’re anywhere in the Middle East, you can get your DōTERRA oils from @theessentialqueen.me. Thanks again Vicky for introducing me to DōTERRA oils. Looking forward to replenishing my stash and my Deep Blue Rub when I run out.
