The last thing on any mom’s mind would have to be fitness. I remember having brunch with my friends (all moms except one) chatting away as usual when our single friend randomly asked us to plan and go on a workout date. You know, the whole shebang of enrolling in a gym and wearing cute if not matchy-matchy workout clothes? Yep. She’s initiating we’ll all be gym buddies. Everyone had a common reaction: “What?! How can we have time to do that?” Our single friend was startled upong hearing us in chorus. She couldn’t believe fitness and health were the least of our concerns. One mom friend even followed up saying she’s lucky if she gets 4 hours of sleep, while the other said eating in a slow, peaceful pace has become a luxury.
The irony that we want our family to be healthy but neglecting our own health and wellness is something that we moms unconsciously do. Why? Because we have a gajillion things to accomplish. More importantly, we, first and foremost prioritize our family above everything else. Making ourselves the least priority when it comes to anything. I honestly think that is wrong. It shouldn’t be the case but part of me thinks that I would really rather catch up on sleep than drag my lazy butt to the gym. But what if I tell you that you can get the workout you need in just 30 minutes a day?
No. This isn’t like those promises you see on TV shopping programs where you’re brainwashed and convinced that a contraption will give you abs almost instantly, prompting you to order in a heartbeat. This is the real deal. Ladies, I’d like to introduce you all to Curves.
What is Curves?
Curves provides you with a complete cardio and strength training workout in just 30 minutes. With a system that can burn up to 500 calories and work every major muscle group, you get an efficient and effective workout every visit. It’s no wonder over 4 million women have chosen Curves to meet their health goals.
I am one who gets bored going to gym.Working my way and figuring out how the machines work so I can do my dose of cardio and whipping out my phone to imitate a certain position to strengthen my core based on app because I don’t really want to spend on a personal trainer, not really sure if I’m doing it right. I’m sure you all had your share of gym awkwardness. So when I had my first visit at Curves, I wasn’t expecting anything different until I stepped inside and felt the atmosphere, full of positivity.

During my first visit, a Curves coach guided me in the process and an initial consultation was made. Filling out my personal information, including health history, they then took my measurements in order to help me plan my goals and expectations after two months of regular visits.
Here’s my Curves buddy, Tin Dychiao aka Manila Fashion Observer getting her BMI measured.
No problem with MFO’s BMI. She is as a matter of fact, underweight. Hay, I wish that was my issue! Heehee. Her goal is to get toned.
I honestly wasn’t exepcting my BMI to be in the lower part of the normal range. I was expecting it to be at least mid-normal around 27-28 maybe. As far as I remembered, that was my BMI a year after I gave birth to lil’ Ms. GJG.
Ayan na, ni-reveal ko na ang measurements ko! Hmm. Parang lumiit ako ha. 5’5 ako when I was young, wild & free, anyare? Hindi yata ko naka-straight body during the measurement! Haha. I have about 5″ in total and 7 lbs. that I want to lose so I can be back to my pre-marriage weight. That’s my goal. The thing I like about Curves is that you set your own realistic goals. Not the coaches nor anybody else will dictate to you what your ideal weight or measurement should be, unless you’re on the obese level where your health is really at risk. Real women with real goals can achieve real results, that’s what Curves is about.
Love that the lounge has a wall dedicated to the women on top. These women have lost inches and pounds that serves as an inspiration to others. Really proves that if others can do it, you can too!
The locker area also has a dresser where you can freshen up after your workout.
The circuit where it all happens. Two rounds of circuit training is equals to 30 minutes. That’s about 30 seconds per station. They also offer Zumba where you do Zumba in between instead of the regular workout. One round of circuit training with Zumba, making it 60 seconds per station.
My favorite part of the Curves workout is this stretching contraption. This badass looking thing actually helps stretch almost all muscles in your body. As what the Curves coaches said, it is best to stretch after your workout than before. You’ll feel more relaxed plus pulled muscles will be less tense.
Hooray for surviving Curves during my first day!
I am happy to report that it has almost been a month since my first visit and I love it. Curves is a perfect workout for women who are on the go (or not) and would want to squeeze in exercising in between their busy schedule. What’s nice about the program is that it’s a combination of cardio and toning. Plus, there’s always a Curves coach that will assist you in every session you attend. You won’t feel intimidated as you can always ask for guidance in using the machines or doing the exercises.
Quick trivia: Did you know that stress produces cortisol, a hormone that makes your tummy big? So even if you don’t eat a lot but you’re stressed often, you can develop that preggy-look tummy! Eeeep! As for the moms who, like me, always find an excuse to not workout, it’s about time that you do. Being fit really involves commitment and dedication. It’s not a fad or a trend, it’s definitely a lifestyle. If you wanna be fit, workout. If you want to lose weight, work out. If you want to be healthy, work out. Well, eating healthy helps too but you know what I mean. 😉
You can start in your own pace and gradually work your way up to a more intense level. Curves is doable, manageable and not boring. It’s definitely a fun fitness workout that’s made to strengthen women.
Studies also show that exercising releases endorphins, the hormone that makes you happy. See how exercising has more benefits than one? Go on, visit a Curves studio today. As in now na ha. No more lame excuses!
