Trying out on a local favorite in Baguio that is well loved by tourists, Cafe By The Ruins is a quaint little restaurant located in the heart of the city waiting to be explored.
The signage is quite small and a bit hard to read that you might just miss it.
While waiting to be seated, Gabbie immediately noticed the contraption to churn cream/butter, gave us the can-I-please-play-with-it-look so we let her and I took a picture. *heehee*
Sad that I wasn’t able to try any of their breads given I am a bread lover! Tsk. They look delish! Now I’m thinking why didn’t I?! 🙁
We arrived late, past 8 in the evening so most of their food were sold out already. Good thing some of their specialties were still available, here’s what we ordered:
Baguio Bagnet (300 php) was yummy! The pork belly was tender yet crispy and is perfect with the tomato relish. Although I find their Padas bagoong weird, nonetheless the dish was good.
Beef Ribs Sinigang (300 php) had a perfect sour broth accompanied by half-cooked vegetables. Although their beef is tender we find the serving little, bones were big but beef itself was too soft it appeared even smaller and won’t satisfy a beef lover’s appetite (read: bitin).
Mechado with Pork Fat Filament (300 php) was one of their specialties. The beef was so tender but I find their mushroom gravy not that flavorful. Nonetheless it was a hearty meal specially when I opted to eat it with their sticky red rice instead of mashed potatoes.
Chocolate de Agua (80 php) was okay. For a chocolate lover, don’t expect this drink to be sweet and chocolatey. A hint of sweetness accompanied the bitter sweet flavor of the traditional chocolate, consistency isn’t thick as well but it was a drink perfect for a cold night.
Because we were the last customer to leave, I was able to snap a few pictures of the place. Still I feel sad I wasn’t able to taste & try their pastries!
I’m not sure if these charcoal paintings are for sale but they have tags with descriptions on it.
Cozy interior perfect for intimate gatherings.
The happy campers! 😀
Take note that parking is quite limited and cueing for a table can take 10-30 minutes depending on how many their customers are so better call in for a reservation. Glad that this cozy little restaurant accepts credit cards and is kid-friendly too! I feel quite sad we weren’t able to try their other dishes, maybe that’s good enough reason to come back to Baguio soon!
