In honour of Mother’s Day, Spiral celebrates Filipina women and showcases their traditional craftsmanship in a journey through time featuring enduring customs and heirloom cuisine from Friday 9th of May to Sunday 11th of May 2014. I, together with some of my fellow SoMoms, and media people witnessed the preview of Spiral’s magnifique celebration for all mothers.

Edita Aguinaldo-Dacuycuy, was awarder in 2011 as the most outstanding commercial crop farmer by the Philippine government presented cookies, wine, and other products using dragon fruit. Did you know dragon fruit is rich in fiber and contains high levels of vitamin C, calcium and phosphorous. What started as a search for the cure of Edita’s daughter, Kate’s cerebral palsy evolved to the first organic dragon fruit plantain in the Nothern Philippines. She started growing these dragon fruits from her garden and now she has started the REFMAD Farms, located in Paayas Village, Burgos, Ilocos Norte.

S.C. Vizcarra presented bags, baskets and furniture made of natural materials hand-woven, hand-made by artisans. Segundina Cornejo Vizcarra founded the company in 1925, providing exceptional hand-made products in Manila start with piña and trousseaus then progressing to woven bags and accessories. Today, they also use other natural materials such as wicker, chair cane, water hyacinth, bangkwang, lupis sourced from all over the Philippines combined with leather or microfiber.

After showcasing the artisanal crafts, we learned about the Mother’s Day featured dishes prepared by the Sofitel chefs in honour of their mothers.

After the brief presentation, we had lunch at Spiral. I wasn’t able to take much photos of the food as I was busy munching and talking! Heehee.

After the hearty lunch, we witnessed Larry Pagsanjan, resident botanical specialist demonstrate essential designer blooms in a workshop just for us guests.
We didn’t miss the opportunity to learn how to arrange flowers ourselves.
A Mother’s Day Legacy at Spiral is happening from today May 9 to Saturday May 17, 2014. Witness the live demonstrations of female artisans, weavers, barong embroiderers and chefs prepare local culinary favorites. Savor the secret recipes of the Spiral Master Chefs as they give you a taste of the recipes of the three generations of mothers in their families. Resident botanical specialist, Larry Pagsanjan and team will conduct designer blooms workshop on May 10, dinner and May 11, brunch. A Mother’s Legacy Fashion Show on May 13, Tuesday, pays tribute to inspirational women as Spiral celebrates Mother’s Day, featuring designer Ryan Madamba.

Spiral’s Mother’s Day Brunch is from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm. Rate is set at Php 3,550++ for adults and Php 1,500++ for kids. Dinner rate is set at Php 2,550++ for adults and Php 1,300++ for kids. While A Mother’s Legacy Fashion Show at Spiral dinner is set at Php2,550++ for adults and Php 1,300++ for kids.Kids 4 years old and below are free.
