Two of the things that I like whenever I go to a nail spa are cleanliness and efficiency of the staff. Both of which I have found in Blanca De China, a lifestyle spa located in the heart of San Juan City.
Remembering Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Remember Audrey Hepburn’s Holly Golightly? The humongous black shades and the little black dress she had since made iconic? Tiffany’s on Manhattan was long considered iconic even before the movie, known as the classic silver company with the sterling reputation. However, after the film was made, it achieved super archetypal status. More than just a good silver company, it became the symbol to many people’s minds, as “that place where only good can happen”.
Remember Holly’s “reds”, the equivalent of what we would call the “blues” these days? Whenever she had them, she would saunter to Tiffany’s, look into its show windows, cruise through its aisles amongst the pretty things, banter lightly with the very dignified but very friendly salespeople, to get away from the ghosts in her life even for just a little while.
That is exactly what I felt upon entering Blanca De China. It is as if I have transported to a quaint beauty sanctuary from an old movie. Everything was so pretty and chic, I needed reminding that I am in a spa.
After a tired day at home, at work, or at school, we all need to whiff of Tiffany’s from Manhattan to right here in our very own City of San Juan. We need a place that can slow down the every churning windmills of our minds. We need that place where we can have tea and cookies gratis, enjoy ethereal music, the immaculate surroundings, and feel the whole romance of it. It doesn’t matter whether you’re willing to pay 200 pesos for a service or 1,000 pesos for a package. In that place, everybody gets the same special treatment. In that place, nobody need be afraid of catching AIDS, Hepatitis B, or heaven forbid, warts from other clients.
Such is a place in San Juan City, conceived as a humble homage to the idea of Tiffany’s, “that place where only good can happen”. Visit that place.
I got the chance to tour around the area before I had my treatments. Blanca De China offers more than just spa treatments for your nails but also for your face and body. They have an extensive menu that is curated by tag-team couple owner Francis and Joanne Magboo who believe that having some “me time” in the form of spa treatments should be classy but not necessarily expensive. That I have to agree! If you haven’t fallen in love with Blanca De China then here’s a quick tour of the place.
The stairway to heaven. This leads to the second floor that has treatment areas.
You can even take home a Blanca De China piece as these mugs are for sale.
I love the inspirational messages that you can see almost all over Blanca De China. You know my “me time” at a salon or spa often involves pondering on my thoughts and feelings. And when I saw these quotable quotes, I couldn’t help but smile and immerse my mind into these words and ideas. It’s such a treat! 😉
Another reason to love Blanca De China is because of “The Star” that is their 1.5 liter dry sterilizer that cleans and disinfects all the tools they use for their clients.
My reads during my visit. Jane Austen’s Guide To Good Manners and a Tiffany & Co. brochure. How apt!
Swatched different shades of pink.
But Orly Lift The Vail won.
Blanca De China offers a loyalty card that one can get with a particular a service and every visit let’s you earns you points that can lead to free services!
There’s Orly Cupcake on my toes.
What a lovely way to end my nail spa!
For the OC people, Blanca De China has salon kits which you can avail and use every time you visit. Have your own nipper, cuticle pusher, nail cutter and other nail spa tools for P1,200 or get the one that includes the tools of the beauty trade (diamond peel tips) for P2,200.
Want to have a SPArty? Do it at Blanca De China.
I think I found my neighborhood lifestyle spa! 🙂
They also offer nail spa services for kids. Excited to bring Gabbie along with me next time!
Thank you Joanne & Francis for inviting me over to Blanca De China. I love that your staff has well preserved the tranquility and serenity of the place as I had my services made. No chikahan, not even a quick talk amongst each other while they were doing my nails which was so refreshing! I love it! 🙂
