That’s a lot of Cs for a title! haha but you know me, I like my post titles funny, catchy & witty! Anyway, the chicken lover in me rejoiced when I learned about a crispy crunchy chicken existed without having a tag team of sauce with it. Chicken Charlie isn’t something new to me, it was actually my sister-in-law who got to taste this double-fried chicken first and later on introduced it to me and my husband.
Double-fried chicken is a method that has been popular in New York and Korea. It is used to make chicken crispy without using any breading, but tender and meaty on the inside. I also just learned that double-frying actually makes the chicken less greasy because it drains a lot of excess fat.
Sharing you all my Chicken Charlie experience as I visit their branch in San Juan.
I was able to snap a few photos as I waited for my chicken to cook. Yes, they fry the chicken only after you order to maintain its freshness & crispiness. As I recall, it took a little under 10 minutes for my 6 pieces of drumstick to get ready.

Chicken Charlie’s cheesestick dynamite is the bomb! Even my husband who’s not a fan of spicy food immediately loved this. Chili stuffed with cheese wrapped in lumpia wrapper is just yummy!
Look at how crispy & crunchy looking these drumsticks are! I am also amazed at how tender the chicken meat is not to mention not greasy at all. Some of you might wonder since this double-fried chicken doesn’t come with a sauce if the chicken meat is flavorful, surprisingly it is. The soy garlic and hot sweet sauce managed to penetrate in the meat, providing it with a hint of flavor but not surprisingly strong that it overpowers the very delicious chicken skin. A nice combination of texture brings you crispiness on the outside and tenderness on the inside. For the health conscious fret not. Despite it being double-fried, Chicken Charlie uses 100% natural oil so rest assured there’s no trans fat.

I have been to their Banawe branch several times. When I saw that they have opened up another branch in San Juan, my parents and I trooped over to taste their double- fried chicken ; p We just can’t get enough!
