This year’s goal is all about health, fitness and wellness. While I try so hard to be fit, I’m also trying my best to be healthy. The thing is, I never really thought about my overall wellness. What is wellness? Well, it is the condition of being in a good physical mental and social well-being. It is an approach to healthcare that emphasizes on preventing illness and prolonging life.
The reason why I’ve never really thought about wellness is because most of the time, I end up having myself treated when I’m already sick. I’d go to doctors seeking cure instead of going for a consult to prevent sickness. So when I had the chance to see a doctor not because I was sick but just for a consult, I didn’t think twice as I know this is something I need. So one weekend, I went to Centro Holistico, an integrative health and wellness centre.
If you’re into watching TV series, you might have seen Private Practice. It’s similar to Centro Holistico- it’s an integrative health and wellness facility that is operated by doctors who believe in holistic healing through an Integrative Medicine approach- the integration of Eastern and Western medical principles. This makes the approach impartial and patient centric.
I went to see Dr. Ryan Dalman. Dr. Dalman is on of the doctors at Centro Holistico. He explained to me that Centro Holistico is all about integrative medicine. Integrative Medicine is the practice of medicine wherein the theories of both complementary and alternative medicine and conventional western medicine are used in diagnosing and treating patients. Conventional western medical practitioners are mostly doctors of medicine or MD’s. Complementary and Alternative Medicine encompasses all the other healing modalities that are being used and practiced throughout the world for many years. These practices would include Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hilot, Energy Healing, Ayurvedic Medicine, etc.
There are nine treatments/services as well as holistic health programs. Because I wasn’t really sure what kind of treatment should I get, so Dr. Ryan suggested I have a Holistic Medical Consultation, which includes a live blood analysis .
Live Blood Analysis is a process where a physician will examine your blood under a microscope. This helps them determine your blood’s physical components which can greatly determine your diet preference, level of stress or presence of certain disease. How cool is this?! Don’t worry, the pricking wasn’t painful as you’ll barely feel anything.
Here’s what my blood looks like. Eeeeep! I can’t really stand seeing it up close! Nanghina ako I swear! The morphology (shape, size or structure) of your blood can indicate a lot of things. Dr. Ryan’s diagnosis was that my blood has a high level of acidity. Can you see how compounded my blood cells are? It’s a clear sign that it presents too much acidity. Acidity can be caused by too much protein intake, coffee, soda, alcohol or spicy food. It can also be a sign of dehydration. Dr. Ryan’s advise? Go for alkaline for it can counter acidity. I should double, if not triple my fruit and vegetable intake. He also told me that juicing is the best way to get the vitamins and nutrients from veggies and fruits.
Another type of blood analysis is called dry blood analysis. It’s where a drop of dried blood is examined. Here’s a closer look at my (dry) blood. Since blood is sensitive to oxidation, dry blood analysis is a great tool in fiddling out biochemical changes to the blood- allergies & nutrient deficiencies can help alter the drying pattern of the blood in a particular way. Each ring, starting from the centre towards the outline of the dry blood has an organ related to it. My dry blood shows that I have a concern that focuses on my bowel, reproductive system or allergic hypersensitiveness. I was certain it was either my bowel or allergies that I need to concern myself with and focus treatment to. So Dr. Ryan recommended I do Colon Cleanse. While I was waiting to be briefed about the service I’m about to undergo, I toured around the facility first.
The area for IV Nutrient Theraphy and Heavy Metal Detox are done.
Treatment bed and lounge chair, where cosmetic acupuncture and ear acudetox are done.
This is where the body acupuncture and energy healing treatments are done.
Colon Cleanse station.
I was really scared & hesitant to do this at first. The thought of it made me feel uncomfortable. But I was assured that it is something relieving and can really help me detoxify. Surprisingly, it’s not as bad as I assume it would be. Centro Holistico does Colon Cleanse manual- they use diluted coffee and other herbs as these are believed to be absorbed by the vessels surrounding the rectum. After the treatment, I felt lighter and my heavy feeling of being bloated disappeared. It is something I would highly recommend especially for people who don’t go regularly. I guess this is the most manual yet best way to detoxify- by helping you get rid of the toxins in your blood stream.
Hot pack and ginger tea after my first ever Colon Cleanse.
Acupuncture
Aside from Colon Cleanse, Heavy Metal Detox and Acupuncture are two of the services I’d like to try at Centro Holistico next time.
Centro Holistico offers different programs which are the following:
Detoxification Program
General Wellness Program
Weight Loss Program
As well as special holistic programs like:
Bridal Package
Anti-Acne Program
Smoking Cessation Program
They can also tweak these programs to better fit their patient’s needs. Centro Holistico can also come up with a personalized recovery program that is tailor fit for their patient’s requirement.
Thank you again Dr. Candy and Dr. Ryan for the insightful and relaxing visit at Centro Holistico.
