Fridate last week was at Manila Hotel’s Champagne Room. It was my first time there & I admit it reeks of splendid old charm.
The restaurant has a rich history in Manila’s social scene. Diners share replendent memories of romantic dinners, propels, celebration and milestones over a fine meal.
In the 70s it welcomed a stream of Manila’s stellar society figures, politician, foreign dignitaries and businessmen who enjoyed par excellence private dinners amidst an elegant setting and basing in the music of Joe Nicolas and The Manila Strings, an orchestra of eleven violinists and members of the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
It’s not often that we do fine dining Fridate.
Degustation Menu for that night.
We were serenaded by these two lovely musicians who played their instruments wonderfully.
Autumn Potato Leek Soup
chorizo, sun dried kale and olive oil
Beetroot Cured Gravlax
Horseradish, market greens
Love how flavourful the gravlax is & the greens complimented it so well.
Fall Mushrooms Ravioli
ravioli in truffle cream sauce
Creamy ravioli with just a hint of truffle.
Duo of Channel Bass Fillet and Beef Short Ribs
orange beurre blanc, thyme juice & sweet potato
Two favourites in one dish. Definitely something Mr. JG & I enjoyed. The bass & beef was cooked to perfection!
Bleu D’Auvergne On Polenta Crisp
gingered pear pickles
Apple Filo Strudel
vanilla bean ice cream
Pralines
All smiles because our bellies were full–it was such a delightful dinner.
