It’s been almost 8 years since I last set foot in Cebu City. I was newly married then and was in the island to attend a friend’s wedding. Since my first visit, I told Mr. JG we should come back, perhaps next time with a family of our own. Two kids later & after almost a decade, I find myself planning our annual summer family trip & Cebu came to mind. Aside from its beautiful beaches, scenic views and historical landmarks, a new SM mall emerges – SM Seaside City Cebu.
What got me excited was the fact that it’s not an ordinary mall. It’s the newest lifestyle hangout in Cebu City and its got a few things that’ll guarantee you to visit it. So allow me to take you on a visual and virtual tour of the newest lifestyle hangout in Cebu City.
SM Seaside City Cebu opened last November 2015 with one thing in mind: to be a lifestyle destination not only for Cebuanos but also for tourists visiting the island. It’s a state of the art & environmentally sustainable complex designed by Florida-based architecture & design firm, Arquitectonica. It’s said that the overall look of SM Seaside City Cebu was inspired by the sea (it has the view of Cebu Channel) & the mountain which are sights to be seen within the island.
While SM Seaside City Cebu is not the biggest mall in the country, (SM Mall Of Asia still holds the title) it is however the biggest in Cebu. Located on a 9.4 hectare site in Cebu City’s South Road Properties (the complex will eventually have residential towers, hotels, a school and a hospital too! I love how they’re building more communities like this), the 470,490 square meter SM Seaside City Cebu is the third SM Supermall in the Queen City of the South. True to the mall’s tagline, SM Seaside City Cebu is Above All Else.
THE SM STORE
An SM mall wouldn’t be complete without The SM Store. SM Seaside City Cebu very own SM Store is two floors & has the second largest footwear collection (great news to all you shoe lovers!) next to SM Makati. The mall also has the staple store such as Our Home, Watsons, ACE Hardware, SM Appliance Center, SM Hypermarket, Baby Company & Kultura Filipino to name a few. There’s also a roster of local and global brands that are already opened and are opening soon. As I learned, some of my favourites brands are at SM Seaside City Cebu including Forever 21, H&M, Uniqlo, & Mango.
SM BOWLING CENTER
SM Bowling Center at SM Seaside City Cebu is a 16-lane state of the art bowling facility. It also has KTV rooms and billiard tables, a perfect place to hang out with friends or family.
Since we don’t have winter her in the Philippines, ice skating rinks have become a big deal. And SM Seaside City Cebu offers world-class, Olympic-sized rink for everyone to use. So if you’re feeling too hot this summer, an hour or two gliding at the ice skating rink is a good option.
FOODCOURT
Cebu is famous for its seafood and lechon. Ultimately, a visit to the island wouldn’t be complete without a little bit of a food trip & this SM Seaside City Cebu got us covered. The spacious food court (don’t forget to look up and check out the intricate ceiling) not only offers a selection of Cebu’s famous dishes, but also international cuisines for your picking. Did I mention you get a lovely view of the Seaside Tower while you dine? Yes!
CINEMA
Movie goers were seriously taken into account for while SM Seaside City Cebu was underway. This was made clear with the 350-seat large screen cinema of SM Seaside City Cebu. It’s 30% bigger than regular screens and the first of its kind in Cebu (well, well, aren’t you lucky Cebu?!) Not only that, there’s also a Director’s Club with comfy recliner La-Z-Boy seats with a butler to boot. Now if this doesn’t entice you to watch more movies, I don’t know what would.

SPIRAL STAIRCASES
Nope, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. These spiral staircases are whimsically color-coded to guide you through your malling. Each elegantly designed staircase serves as location checkpoint that lets you know what part of the mall you are (orange for Mountain Wing, aqua for Seaview Wing, Yellow for Cube Wing and Lime for City Wing). I love how design meets function, a clear sign that SM Seaside City Cebu was well thought of.
SKY PARK & PLAYGROUND
If I were to choose my favorite part of SM Seaside City Cebu, it would have to be the Sky Park/Playground. We all know that parks are scarce here in the Philippines, so it’s such a breath of fresh air (pun intended) to know that SM Seaside City Cebu has incorporated nature in its architecture. Inhale fresh sea breeze while you dine in one of the surrounding restaurants or let your kids enjoy the lush greens surrounding the park. Did you know that this is the first ever Kenneth Cobonpue-designed children’s playground in the world?! Yes. Nakaka-proud lang! Now I really want to visit Cebu and let my lil’ JGs have fun at the Sky Park.
CHAPEL OF PEDRO CALUNSOD
The Chapel of Pedro Calungsod is the first structure to be built in the complex. The 100-wall chapel has a background of the mountains & has been significant in the expansion of the complex.
SM SEASIDE TOWER
Erected in the middle of SM Seaside City Cebu, the SM Seaside Tower offers a bird’s eye view of the tropical paradise that is Cebu. The soon-to-be completed 40 storey tower will offer a viewing deck, a bar, and a restaurant that lets your enjoy a panoramic view of the sea, mountains and the city.
THE CUBE 
Similar to the iconic globe that’s synonymous to SM Mall of Asia, the cube is to SM Seaside City Cebu. The gigantic 21 x 21 meter sculptural piece made of fine stainless steel symbolises resilience, strength and stability of Cebuanos and Filipinos in general. Now you have another iconic place in Cebu to have your #OOTD or profile picture taken. 😉
